People
Many different people are involved in Institute life, with different roles, expertise and responsibilities.
Full Time Faculty members are hired by Concordia University. There are three main components to their jobs: research, teaching, and university service.
Part Time Faculty members are those who teach many Institute courses. However, Institute part time faculty are also impressive with regards to the quality and quantity of academic research that they conduct.
Staff: The Institute could not flourish were it not for the dedication and hard work of our staff! There are a variety of different people whose work facilitates the teaching and research at the Institute:
- The Program Secretary and Academic Advisor, Linda Bowes, is responsible for all Institute correspondence and files. She also meets with students to provide Academic Advising, such as which courses they need to take to complete their degrees.
- The Receptionist and Events coordinator coordinates the information and events at the Institute. Michelle Lacombe greets visitors, prepares the e-Simone of the Institute and does much of the invisible, behind the scenes work necessary for an event to be successful.
-
Marie-France Germaine takes care of the Institute's Reading Room. She is there to help you do your research. She can help you choose a topic, search databases, locate books and organize your ideas. Please see Reading Room under Resources for student.
Institute Fellows: Fellows are professors from another Department who are connected to Institute life. They help out on various Institute committees, and provide support and guidance for both students and faculty committed to feminist issues at Concordia University.
Research Associates: Research Associates are individuals who are conducting research on feminist issues, and who would like an official link to the Simone de Beauvoir Institute. They can be part-time teaching faculty, graduate students, or independent scholars. Research Associates meet regularly to exchange ideas, notably in the Research Seminars (see Events and Information for more details about these seminars). If you are interested in becoming a Research Associate, speak with the Institute Principal.
Lillian Robinson Scholars: Lillian Robinson scholars are academic researchers well known for their feminist scholarship and activism. They are Visiting Scholars at the Institute, and provided with office space, Internet access and library privileges. More information about the Lillian Robinson Scholars, and application forms, visit our section dedicated to this topic.
Postdoctoral Fellows: Postdoctoral Fellows are individuals who have completed a doctoral degree, who have secured external postdoctoral grant funding, and who are dedicating themselves to an intense period of research. The Institute is happy to welcome Postdoctoral Fellows interested in feminist issues. We can provide office space, internet access, library privileges, and a community of scholars committed to feminist inquiry. If you are interested in being located at the Simone de Beauvoir Institute for your postdoctoral studies, please contact the Institute Principal.
